It was either the sickening clean sterile smell of the room or the fact he had been passed out for hours that woke Karkat up. His vision was blurry and he had no idea where he was at. He felt a bit numb in some parts and a bit ached in others. His vision cleared and he found himself staring up at a blank white roof. Karkat quickly scanned the room and himself. He was in a hospital bed attached to some IVs and some blood. The machine next to him beeped with every heart beat and he sighed. A hospital. Why was he there?

He noticed a dark haired figure in the corner and turned to see Terezi curled up in a chair, asleep. That's when everything flooded back to him. He had saved her from a couple ass hats last night. No wonder he was sore. He had the crap beat out of him.

Karkat looked around the rest of the room and saw that no one else was with them. He groaned and laid back on his hospital bed. He hated hospitals. He didn't even know why. It was just the feeling of them and the aura you feel around every corner of this goddamn place. It smelled horrible too and he just wanted to get out whenever he could. This, he decided, would be now.

He sat up and took out a bunch of the cables connected to his body off of himself and sat on the edge of the bed. He still had a shit load of pain coming from multiple parts of his body but he thought that he was fine. What he didn't know, though, was that the machines have high-tech sensors that set off an alarm when someone disconnects them the wrong way. That caused a doctor and a few nurses to rush to the room. Karkat looked at them practically sprint in and thought to himself, "FUCK" The nurses tried to keep Karkat down on the bed as he flailed about, trying to escape their grasp. The doctor was trying to put on all the cable back on him but was basically failing at all attempts. "Hey! What the hell? Get the fuck off me!" Karkat yelled as he was trying to flail his way out.

All the yelling and struggling noises managed to wake up Terezi from her sleep. She yawned and wondered what was going on in the room. She could tell the yelling was from Karkat and the other occasional voice was probably the doctor and a few nurses with him. She thought that Karkat must have been struggling and wanted to get out. She sighed and hesitantly got up from her chair, following Karkat's voice and managing to end up standing next to the nurses as they kept on holding Karkat down. She looked down with her sightless eyes and put a hand on Karkat's shoulder.

Karkat stopped for a moment and looked up to Terezi grabbing at his shoulder. He had no idea why, but that seemed to make him stop flailing. It was something about her that just brought a weird sensation to him that he had never felt before. It brought butterflies to his stomach.

The doctor was finally able to put all the cables back on him and the nurses finally let go of him. The doctor sighed and left the room with the nurses.

Karkat groaned again and looked away from Terezi, actually trying think of a new way to get out of this hospital. Terezi sighed and kept her position next to him on the bed. Something about him just made her smile. She didn't know if it was the constant cursing or how cute he really was on the inside. They have only known each other for a couple days but it felt like she knew him a lot longer than that.

She sat down on a chair next to him and gave him a small smile. "I never got to thank you for what you did."

Karkat turned to look at her and shook his head. "You don't have to. Shit like that just irks me and I had to do something." He looked down and started to twist the sheets in his hands.

Terezi giggled slightly and looked to him with a bit of a head tilt afterward. "But, how did you know where I was?"

Karkat scratched the back of his head and thought for a bit before coming up with an answer. "After you had that fight with Vriska and that other kid that I won't even bother asking for his name, I went outside to look for you to see if you were okay. I walked past an alleyway and I heard a scream. I just ran in there to see who it was and I saw you there being attacked by those assholes." He looked up to the ceiling and sighed again.

Terezi's smile brightened and she held on to his hand. "Well, Thank you for doing what you did. They deserved what they got."

Karkat felt his hand being held on to and he couldn't help but smile. He made sure she didn't see it, though. "It's really nothing. Anybody would have done it, I'm sure."

"But, I'm glad that you did it." Terezi said sincerely. After witnessing what she had done to Dave, she had doubted anyone, not even Nepeta, would bother to follow her and make sure she was okay. Seeing that Karkat, who she had only just met that night, came after her, it made her feel a bit special. It made her heart flutter a little.

That stopped him from saying anything as a light blush came to his face. He stayed silent and Terezi just giggled, continuing to hold his hand.

After hours of just them conversing and finding out more about each other, the doctor comes in and has a clipboard with him. "Umm… Mr. Vantas?" the doctor said after he examined his clipboard for a few seconds.

Karkat sat up on his bed and looked at his doctor with a bit of a frown, "What do you want?" He had been spending time talking to Terezi and some half pint doctor he didn't even want to be around was not going to take up his time.

The doctor looked around the room a bit before looking back at him. "It seems that you have recovered exceptionally in such a short amount of time. You still have a few minor injuries, though those will dissipate after some rest."

"Get to the point, doctor." Karkat blurted out as he started to get impatient with him.

"Well, it would seem that you are able to leave for home now." After being snapped at, the doctor's voice was kind of scared and feeble.

Terezi smiled and Karkat just sighed. "Finally" Karkat said. He pushed himself off the bed and was about to start getting ready to head home. He didn't want to stay here any longer than he already had. He hated hospitals, and getting to know Terezi better in one made him feel like he was either, one, pathetic, or two, a complete loser.

"Also.." The doctor interrupted as Karkat was about to get off his bed. "You have a visitor" As the doctor was saying that, a tall man came walking in through the doorway. He was dark-haired and looked about 6 feet tall. He had a purple T-shirt on and polka-dotted pants that looked like they shouldn't be worn by anyone. He had a tan skin color and wore clown make-up on his face. His hair was all messed up and looked like he hasn't combed it in years.

Karkat recognized who it was and sighed, waving his hand lazily at him. "Hey, Gamzee."  Karkat sighed and lazily laid back down on the bed. He didn't recall seeing Gamzee at the party last night, but somehow his friend had found out he had gotten hurt and came to check on him.

Gamzee smiled and happily walked in, sitting down next to Karkat. "Sup my motherfuckin best bro."

Karkat scoffed and looked at Gamzee. "What do you think is 'sup'?" This guy was either extremely dense or he had no clue where the heck he was at.

Gamzee laughed and looked at Karkat with a lazy smile. "I think you all up and got motherfuckin beat up pretty bad." Gamzee had a stupid look on his face as he restated the blatantly obvious.

"Yeah whatever. What are you doing here, anyway?" Karkat just wanted to make sure Gamzee wasn't high off his ass and think he had just waltzed into his apartment. That would cause problems. He might snap at a few nurses and ask Karkat why he was having a party without inviting him.

"I came to pick you up, bro. Can't just leave my best motherfuckin friend in a place he doesn't like." Gamzee looked over at Terezi with a bit of a surprised face on him before going to whisper in his ear. "Is that your new girl, bro?"

Seeing as her presence had been noticed, Terezi snapped back to reality, before which she had just been dazedly looking in Karkat's direction. Hearing Gamzee's words made a blush come to her face and she realized her presence here was probably a little awkward now. She stood up and held her hands behind her back. "Well, I've overstayed my welcome. I need to get going. I need to head to the veterinary clinic and check on Lemonsnout. See you, Karkat." She leaned down and gave him a quick kiss on the cheek and scurried out of the room. When she left and was a few hallways away, her heart almost leaped out of her chest. What she had just done… would Karkat disapprove of it? She sighed and walked out of the hospital to check on her injured dog.

Gamzee smirked and looked at Karkat. "Guess that answer's my question."

Karkat's face was a bright red and his gaze was focused down. "S-Shut up, Gamzee. Let's just get the fuck out of this damn hospital."

"You got it, bro." Gamzee helped Karkat up and they both headed out to Gamzee's old minivan and started off towards Karkat's apartment.

For some reason, Karkat couldn't wait for classes on Monday.
Okay, I'm posting this up even though I'm on hiatus. Dorian wrote most of this and I just edited it up and added a few minor details in there in some places.

Also, explanation of hiatus: Band. Enough said.
I will pull it off in November after marching band is over. If I post a chapter up during it, it will be very random and unexpected.

I hope you enjoy the chapter!
